Learn More: ccpvideos.com Take your paintings to the peak of photo-realism with acrylic expert David N. Kitler. Accurate wildlife painting requires careful observation and fine-tuned technical abilities, and you develop those skills and more in David’s third DVD workshop from Creative Catalyst. You learn intuitive methods for imitating natural textures as David captures grass, bark, feathers, and eyes with methods possible only in acrylic. You get an up-close view of your subject matter as David supplements field photos with three-dimensional reference materials. You take cues from an animal’s anatomy to guide the direction and width of your brush strokes. David’s approach to acrylic combines watercolor techniques with the strengths of opaques. You take advantage of quick drying time and protective coats of gloss medium as you layer brilliant, transparent washes over a base of whites. David shares methods for applying complicated textures with inexpensive tools. You learn to paint iridescence that translates to prints, and you develop life-like eyes from basic veins to sparkling highlights. Buy the DVD from Creative Catalyst: www.ccpvideos.com

Please click WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY. This is a studio painting 9×12 painted Oct 18, 2008 from a photo I shot at our (First Coast Plein Air Painters) paintout last spring at Castaway Island (Just off the Intracoastal Waterway in Jacksonville, Florida, geo:lat=30.296123950482314 geo:lon=-81.43103957176208) using Winsor & Newton Finity acrylics and a tube of Golden’s OPEN burnt sienna. I used a retarding fluid along with the OPEN burnt sienna & ultramarine blue to extend the drying time of the acrylics and get a more “oil-like” underpainting. Towards the end, I used a gloss acrylic varnish to thin the colors creating transparent glaze coats to deepen tones in the painting. Total painting time was about 2.5 hours. The music is by Karunesh from the “Nirvana Cafe” CD, Track 06, “Revelry” which can be purchased and downloaded at musicmp3.ru. My recordings of bird songs gathered over many paintouts has also been mixed in via the voice-over track. THANK YOU FOR WATCHING! HAPPY PAINTING!
